History is not an absolute, but cause and effect: Change the cause and you alter the effect.  What if a single decision or battle had went the other way?  Perhaps an election had turned out differently!  We as individuals are capable of altering the future course of history by our activism, or lack thereof. Imagine with us for a moment, certain historical events had indeed turned out quite differently.  Some might conclude that our history, heritage, culture and nationhood having been suppressed and culturally cleansed; it is only natural for events to swing completely in the opposite direction.  While others will maintain that a gradual process has been underway since the surrender ouf our Confederate Armies.  Regardless of one’s feelings it is apparent that under a liberated and independent Confederate States of America the heroes of our past would be respectfully honored.  In any case Confederate Fiction allows us to dream and envision victory; otherwise "where there is no vision, the people parish." {Proverbs 29:18}

Our story begins with a celebration of the Jefferson Davis Presidency which took place at the Fredericksburg Battlefield Park north of Richmond Virginia.  The site was chosen more for its convenience, in order to avoid the hussle and bussle of Richmond itself.  The crowd was of id modest size; not exceptionally large while at the same time not small by any measure.  Tables had been set up and a living history battle was staged, not to reinact any particular battle but for the sake of allowing those present to see what life during those years was like.  Tables were set up and a row of seats with a platform and a podium was put in place for the normal ceremonial speaches, singing and the like.

Mr. Winfield Davis, his wife and teenage son had all enjoyed such events, not only because they were devout believers in the Confederate Cause, but also their feeling was that it provided an excellant family oriented activity.  All of his life Winfield had been asked over and over if he was related to the Jefferson Davis family; he usually replied that it was not likely.  On this occasion all sorts of people could be spotted meangling among the suttlery tables and displays, as well as standing close by the field where the living history battle was to take place.  But somehow his attention was drawn to an old man who seemed have an need to speak to him but just didn't get around to introducing himself.

The occasion presented itself when the elderly white haired gentlemen and Winfield found themselves and their respective families at the same snack table.  "Mr. Winfield Davis; I am Dr. Jeremiah Johnston of Houston Texas, perhaps we have never been formally acquainted, but never-the-less I feel that I know you like as an old friend."  You have me at a disadvantage Dr. Johnston, it appears I do not know you and am at a loss to understand how we might have crossed paths?  It was an exceptionally beautiful day for this time of the year; sunny, cloudless day, small breeze with temperatures in the lower 70's and the grass was green and thick like a carpet.

"Allow me to invite you over yonder where we may sit under the shade of the tree and speak a little; I have a few things you might wish to know."  The two walked over and had a seat; their respective families excused themselves and took advantage of the many things sights.  Once the two were seated, their snacks in hand, Winfield asked Dr. Johnston to please continue with his remarks.  Mr. Davis you perhaps you are aware that when President Jefferson Davis passed away on 6 December 1889 in New Orleans his body was later exhumed and moved to Richmond a few years later.

Yes of course; replied Winfield Davis!  What you might not be aware of however is that during the exhumation it was natural to examine the body and place it in a different casket then that which he had previously been buried.  It was during this process that my father who was a young doctor still serving his internship at the time, was present for the proceedings.  Somehow something happened which was never explained to me, a tooth was dislodged; which could have easily occurred given the condition of the remains by this time.  My father stated that without giving it much thought he picked up the tooth which had fallen on the floor and placed it in his smock jacket pocked, intending to deal with the situation later.

The rush of circumstances caused him to completely forget the tooth in his pocket, time passed and the tooth was placed in a wooden box which found its way into the office of his private practice.  Over the years I began to wonder about that small wooden box on his desk, until I finally found an occasion suitable for asking without seeming to be noisy.  He told me the story, which I have now told to you; but this is really where second half begins. Please go on Doctor Johnston!  The years passed and serious advances were made in the field of cloning; mostly in regard to animals such as cattle and the famous Dolly the sheep case.

What was not commonly know to the public is that many of us had already experimented and advanced even further but no one was prepared to clone a human being; even if they did, they weren't prepared to admit to such a thing.  Then Winfield Davis spoke up; Doctor Johnston, I've been a reenactor for many years, dabbled in local as well as states politics and since I resemble the late president, it might be expected that I have played the part of Jefferson Davis from time to time.  But you haven’t told me all this simply because I am a reenactor who has played President Davis!  No I haven't; replied Doctor Johnston! Haven't you noticed how completely you resemble Jefferson Davis; you should?

The doctor pulled two pictures out of his pocket; a Jefferson Davis picture taken when he was about the same age as Winfield Davis, the other was of Winfield Davis himself.  Look closely at these pictures; since you were reenacting the part of Jefferson Davis, you had on the same suit as he did in his picture.  The picture of Jefferson Davis was made while he was Secretary of War, so he was a little younger looking then in his later pictures as President of the Confederacy.  The two of you are not look likes but trans-generational identical twins! Winfield Davis looked at the two pictures almost in a staring gaze, then at Doctor Johnston.

Dear God Almighty Doctor Johnston, you can't be suggesting that I am a Jefferson Davis Cone; I must be misinterpreting what you've have said.  No Winfield, you are the clone of Jefferson Davis and I can prove what I've said; you can say you are his identical twin, son or however you wish, but that is why your reenactments have been so convincing.  People believed they were looking at Jefferson Davis himself in your acting and wearing modern cloths does at the moment doesn’t alter your appearance in the least.  I know what you mean doctor; even my friends call me Jeff and very few refer to me as Winfield.

You must understand, the odds were against the corps of the Jefferson Davis which was tooth passed on by my father, of ever providing good cloning material, but call it a chance of luck or whatever you like, but the procedures were a complete success.  What about my adoptive parents; their name is Davis; asked Winfield?  They are your relatives in a sense; they were descended form Brigadier General Joseph Robert Davis, nephew of Jefferson Davis. General Davis was a general under the Army of Northern Virginia, fighting throughout the war which includes the Battle of Gettysburg.  While a birth certificate was filed giving you the name Davis; your name comes from Jefferson Davis himself.

Winfield Davis arose from the fold up wooden chair where he had been seated and paced back and forth speaking in low tones, more to himself then to the doctor.  I hope I haven caused you trouble but I figured it was time for you to know; be that as it may, clone or natural birth you are your own person and an individual in your own right, that has and always will be the case.  You should look at it as a noble birth which can become an advantage in your struggle in behalf of the Confederate Cause. Jefferson Davis was an exceptional orator who garnered the support of the electorate and had the war never occurred, he would have gone down in history as a great military hero of the War with Mexico.

It is true I've been able to attract large numbers in the few speaking tours which I've made over the years and I've been blessed with a few natural gifts which now attribute to Jefferson Davis himself.  While it would be illogical for me to make it know I am a clone, thereby claiming to be his direct descendant, still this knowledge has given me a clearer understanding as to both his strengths and weaknesses alike.  We are obviously two seperate people; still he was able to lead our nation during its darkest days. Doctor Johnston; I will lay claim to being a relative of Jefferson Davis General Joseph Davis based upon my birth certificate.

My speaking tours which have been an offshoot of the history, heritage and culture beliefs which I hold dear; but now they shall come front and center in an all out campaign.  Doctor Johnston; would you mind gathering up the evidence of my being a clone of Jefferson Davis and place them in a secure deposit box leaving myself as the benefactor, in the event of your death.  I am not sure such proof will ever be used but if the occasion should become crucial in my drive to lead our people; I'd like the evidence available.  I take it you have seen the positive side of your unique genetic heritage and plan on making constructive use by stepping upon the world stage as leader of occupied people and nation?

The Campaign Begins

The celebrations at Fredericksburg Virginia ended and everyone went their way, but not before Winfield Davis had made contacts toward forging a team for the purpose of openly declaring liberation and his own campaign to become the Second President, Confederate States of America.  The patriot Doctor Jeremiah Johnston agreed to use his extensive contacts gained over his long lifetime in support of Winfield Davis and his campaign.  The new campaign team stayed on a couple extra days moving their talks to Richmond where they toured the Whitehouse of the Confederacy as well as Hollywood Cemetery, allowing Winfield Davis to visit the grave site of his biological identical twin and father; Jefferson Davis,

Before the team finished their series of meetings in Richmond which were scheduled to adjourn on Monday evening 25 February 2008, a donation arrived in a secure envelope by special courier from an anonymous donor; no doubt an acquaintance of Doctor Johnston.  The amount was an astonishing million dollars. Enclosed was a receipt showing the taxes had already been paid; thereby keeping out of trouble with Internal Revenue pending the liberation of the Confederacy.  The Winfield Davis Campaign Team agreed to hold their first rally in Montgomery Alabama on the steps of the Capital Building, just across the street from the First Whitehouse of the Confederacy.

Before leaving Richmond the documents were filed so as to give the team legal status with the necessary officers being appointed; among them were a Secretary, Treasurer, Operations Director and Public Relations.  The Montgomery Campaign Rally was schedule for Saturday 6 April 2008 and unlike other efforts in behalf of the cause, donations were pouring into the campaign coffers and within days an expert Advertising and Media Expert join the growing team.  The influence made possible by each member reached into the mass media itself which were unable to avoid what they felt would be ongoing prime time news.

The day of the Montgomery Campaign finally arrived with eager anticipation; the throngs of people filled the entire area in front of the Capital Building with television camera crews present, representing a number of networks. Japan, Germany and Great Britain were among the foreign networks on the scene that day, all eager to report the 'Rebirth of the Confederate Cause' and the rise of a modern day Jefferson Davis look-alike as its dynamic leader.  The preliminaries were well underway by 10:00 A.M. with a color guard carrying forward the Confederate States National, Navy Jack and Battle Flag along with the playing of Dixie.

There were a couple of speakers as well as several singing groups both Gospel and Confederate Music set the stage for Winfield Davis to speak.  The greatest surprise up to this point was the pass and reviews of a full division of our 'Men in Gray' the Confederate Legion's Military Ceremonial Honor Guard.  Upon completing their pass and review the legionnaires took up positions in company size groups scattered at key positions around the area; including two companies at the bottom of the Capital Steps.  The is a star located on the top landing where the steps lead into the Capital, it was upon this star where Jefferson Davis took the oath of office as the Provisional President Confederate States of America.

Little notice was taken as to the position of the star until two men began to move the podium behind a nearby pillar and out of sight of the audience gathered below.  The Confederate Legion was seen snapping to attention and moving into position as if standing as guards to protect an important person about to arrive on the scene.  Then about that time a new an unfamiliar piece of music was heard which later came to be known as 'Salute to the Confederate Chief' which was not unlike the music used to greet the U.S. President; however the Confederate version while modern was none-the-less uniquely Confederate in tone.

Then the crowd’s attention was drawn to Winfield Davis who motorcade was even then arriving at the curb in a direct line leading up the sidewalk to the steps of the building.  The motorcade presented itself like an escort for the President, Confederate States of America including a limousine with the Great Seal and appropriate flags marking its forward corners.  The limousine was preceded by seven large official looking motorcycles and followed by as many staff cares with a police escort leading the way.  Winfield Davis and his wife stepped out of the limousine an onto the world stage, as billions from around the world watched while history drastically altered its course.

While the official delegation slowly made their way up toward the Capital Steps Confederate Legionnaires standing at attention and lining both sides came to attention, then gave a salute with polished parade rifles; these are rifles for show only and cannot fire a cartridge.  The master of ceremonies greeted Winfield Davis and his wife as one would the President and First Lady.  The crowd burst out in thunderous applause knowing that for the first time in 143 years they were seeing an official delegation representing the Confederate States of America; the mass media did not fail to comprehend what was taking place before their cameras.

Then Mr. Davis stepped forward and intentionally stopped directly upon the star where Jefferson Davis once stood, raised his hands as if greeting the people of the Confederacy.  The cheers and applauds of the crowd was more like unto rolling claps of thunder which continued for a prolonged period of time.  Finally Winfield Davis began to speak using a small microphone attached to his suit jacket lapel with loud speakers carefully placed in various places.  Ladies and gentlemen those who have studied Jefferson Davis and have seen my living history portrayals are aware that I am a cross generational identical twin of the late President of the Confederacy.

There has been wide distribution of a document titled the 'Proclamation of Independence' thereby making it widely available!  My purpose in coming before you today is to announce my candidacy for President, Confederate States of America; Mr. Winfield Davis was then interrupted with another round of thunderous applauds.  Unknown to those present a host of network executives and news anchors were left in awe and for the first time seemed almost speechless.  Victory for my campaign will also mean a victory for the Confederate Cause, which means the independence of the Confederate States of America.

Therefore it is my intention that the Proclamation of Independence shall be the cornerstone and platform of my campaign.  It is time for a successor to the honorable Jefferson Davis; the Second President, Confederate States of America.  Ladies and gentlemen, Confederates, allies and friends of the Confederacy, all those who love individual liberty; let us together launch a new birth of freedom and self government; let it begin here and now.  Regardless of whether your ancestors fought for the blue, the gray or came to our shores afterward; join with me in the struggle.  At that moment a news camera crew led by a network journalist began to move up the steps toward the Confederate Presidential Candidate.

A column of Confederate Legionnaires which lined the lower steps came to attention and silently but efficiently blocked the way with their parade rifles.  The commander stepped forward and firmly but politely ordered; by invitation only madam!  Are you his body guards or what; the journalist asked?  He is our Commander-in-Chief Acting; pending his election as the President, Confederate States of America.  While the speaking continued Mr. Winfield Davis announced his Vice Presidential running mate; a man name James Lee; not related to General Robert E. Lee.  However this day would prove to be only the beginning for both the Confederate States Presidential Campaign as well as the Confederate Legion.

The Rise of the Confederate Legion

On Saturday 26 April a Rally was held in Tallassee Florida where 800,000 Legionnaires marched in a pass and review; the largest parade of its kind in the history of that city.  A couple weeks later another pass and review and campaign rally was held, this time in Columbia South Carolina; a million Confederate Legion Troops wound completely around the State House.  The spectacle gains the undivided attention of a state which had removed the Confederate Flag which once flew over their capital building.  The Campaign Rally and the size of the Confederate Legion parade was so huge, the State Politicians not only attended, but promised the Confederate would be reinstated to its proper place.

Jefferson Davis was born in Christian Country, now Todd County Kentucky on 3 June 1808 and Winfield Davis returned to the birth place of the man who was more then a father or a brother and of whom he carried his identical genetic code.  The largest gathering ever witnessed at the birth home of Jefferson Davis gathered to commemorate his birthday on Tuesday 3 June 2008 where Winfield Davis was the guest speaker.  Again a full division of Confederate Legionnaires were present with parade rifles, as guards Mr. Davis as well as to give an excellent performance.  Mean while the publicity had brought worldwide notoriety to the Legion, causing its number to suddenly explode to three million members.

There was an even greater effect upon the Legion then the opportunity to stage a number of parades, the publicity had not only caused it to grow enormously, but money in the six and seven digits poured in from seemly everywhere; private donations, as well as corporations, both foreign and domestic.  An offer by a uniform manufacturer was accepted and a contract signed for them to design, develop and produce uniforms for the Confederate Legion; a Dress Gray as well as a version which was like unto a Combat Uniform.  These uniforms would take into consideration those worn during the War for Confederate Independence, while producing a modern exceptionally sharp uniform.

The Confederate Legion also offered survival training at encampments throughout the States and by the fall of the year the Confederate Legion was well trained as well as equipped unlike anything that could have been imagined just a year before.  Confederate States National Flag, Confederate Legion Flag as well and the Chaplain's Flag was made available to every command.  When the new flags, uniforms and parade rifles arrived at each command there came with the equipment the offer of professional training in the manual of arms as well as the ability to perform as a precision drill team.  The Confederate Legion would reach seven million members and achieve professional status!

The Confederate Legion was sufficiently prepared that an encampment was stage outside of Vicksburg Mississippi and two days later on Friday 4 July that same year a million men in gray marched into the city.  These were no band of good ole boys on a casual stroll, but a sharp military on the move which would have done their ancestors proud.  A pass and review was held in town as well as a formal Confederate Flag rising who purpose was to effectively retake an area to which the Union Armies had laid siege during that terrible war.  While it was a political gesture Vicksburg was none-the-less retaken as completely as if the Confederate States Army had marched into town.

By Friday 18 July the second million members of the Confederate Legion had been ready and mustered outside of Savanna Georgia and made preparations to retrace in reverse General William Tecumseh Sherman's march to the sea.  There would be several encampments along the way before Confederate Legionnaires decked in combat uniforms and field gear marched into Atlanta in triumph on Monday morning 28 July.  The mass media had followed them all along the route and the entire march had been telecast worldwide.  Their entry into Atlanta was billed as the victorious return of the Confederates in Gray to a city which had fallen 144 years before.

The federals were not unaware of the growing support for an independent Confederate States of America and the election of Winfield Davis as its Second President; a U.S. Presidential News Conference was scheduled for 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday 30 September in an effort to turn the media's attention in their direction, hoping to sway popular opinion.  They were greatly disappointed when their press conference proved to be embarrassingly unattended, save for a sparse few loyal soles.  The largest Campaign Rally in history was at that very moment taking place in Richmond Virginia as a million and a half very sharp Confederates in Gray marched down Monument Row and pass the State House.

The U.S. President called a meeting which included Homeland Security, Secret Service, F.B.I., C.I.A., National Security, Attorney General, Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff and a few other unnamed individuals.  Once the mass media and his presidential staff had been shown the door along with the mass media, the president began to speak; Ladies and Gentlemen, let me come directly to the point of this meeting.  Those Confederate under the leadership of Winfield Davis has brought victory to the Confederate Cause where all the Confederate Generals of the 'Civil War' had failed; make no mistake about it, they will stage a march on Washington.  My question to you is simple; how shall we respond?

The F.B.I. Director responded by saying; perhaps the Attorney General might wish to add his remarks but it appears to me they have violated no laws. I know; we’ve infiltrated their ranks!  Every move they’ve made has not only been legal but completely peaceful in every way.  The Attorney General added; Mr. President, any response we make must not be of such a nature as to provoke the situation.  If we move against them as if they are some kind of enemy or an invader they will simply grow larger.  The President then advances his remarks; the entire world is watching and we are beginning to look like a bunch of impotent fools.  Where did this Winfield Davis come from anyhow; do any of you know?

The Director of the C.I.A. replied; we checked his background and there nothing could be found which would make him appear threatening.  He claims to be a descendant of the Jefferson Davis Family and there is no reason to dispute his claim. Mr. Winfield Davis has connections with the rich and powerful, the intellectual community as well numerous community leaders.  He himself is probably the most influential leader to come down the pike since General Stonewall Jackson’s time.  We are convinced that a number of our agents, who infiltrated the Confederate Legion, have covertly, switched their loyalties; however there is no proof of my assertion.  These Confederate presently used our own rules against us!

The President then arose from his chair in order to emphasize more clearly the gravity of the situation! He looked directly at the two major party leaders from each of the two houses of congress!  There are 25 Senators and 78 Representative which openly support these Confederates and likely more who aren't prepared to speak openly.  These Confederate Legionnaires have achieved a high degree of discipline and the best survival training, matching or even exceeding that of our own Armed Forces and this for a 'Military Ceremonial Honor Guard.'  They've achieved these things while we have been busy battling each other and achieving none of the things which concern the electorate.

It is expected that neither major political party will achieve a majority in the next election; that majority will pass to Confederate Sympathizers.  The President then made another round of those present seeking a final comment before he summed up the situation. Finally everyone having added their closing remarks the President stated; we know that force is not possible.  The Europeans as well as Japan have stated that force is used they will place a strict embargo on all goods coming in or out of the United States.  Plus they have threatened to use force if necessary in order to prevent another bloodbath such as was experienced during heretofore has been referred to as the 'Civil War.'

The Pendulum of Political Power

The elections of 2008 was catastrophic to those who had placed all their allegiance in what had long since become a consolidation of socialist states and so little emphasis on principle and morality.  Mr. Winfield Davis had by this time become the undisputed leader of the Confederate Cause, having brought all of the Confederate and Southern organizations under the umbrella of his own leadership.  Those who refused to alter their narrow agenda was left to die on the vine, among these were several history, heritage and culture groups who either stood against liberating the Confederacy and reactivating its rightful constitution, or else simply ignored what was taking place, somehow believing they alone had all the answers.

While the Confederate Legion had since become the quid essential public means of demonstrating the political strength of the Confederate Cause, still the credit lay with Mr. Winfield Davis and his ability to draw enormous crowds wherever he appeared.  The months leading up to the elections found Mr. Davis on tour, beginning with Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kentucky and Tennessee.  Then he took his campaign through Arkansas the other member States of the Confederacy before heading laying plans for Washington DC. In each State he made it clear, the Confederate States National Flag will fly over their State House by Election Day or their career politicians would join the unemployment line.

The General Elections caused a drastic shift in the political arena, the 25 Confederate sympathizing Senators rose to 52 partly as a result of the elections but also due to many Senators having become frighten as a result of the shifting tide of events.  The numbers in the House of Representatives rose to 225 for similar reasons, but mostly it was a growing perception among the power elite that the Confederacy would be victorious this time around and if they were indeed coming to power, they wanted to be on the winning side.  In reality they were cowards whose only purpose was to remain in office irregardless of the wishes of the people or oath to the constitution to which they had sworn.

A third party candidate won the U.S. Presidency beating out both major party candidates; the result was that both the Republicans and the Democrats were swept from power leaving the Confederates and their sympathizers as the governing majority.  The various State House of Representatives and Senates fell to the Confederates in varying degrees, but leaving them in working control in 29 States.  In five other States either the Republicans or Democrats remained in control, but by a razors edge.  As it turned out the Governorship of three States went Confederate while the State Congress did not, but the congress lacked a veto proof majority.  The pendulum of power had indeed shifted!

God save the Confederacy

"We Seek to Achieve the National, Political, Social and Economic independence of the Confederate States of America by all lawful, peaceful and honorable means.  We believe the Confederate States of America should be liberated and restored under the Confederate States Constitution.  That national Confederate States elections should be arranged in order to fill the now valid but vacant seat in the Confederate States Government."
